This gripping, stranger-than-fiction espionage thriller brings to life the incredible true story of Moe Berg, the professional baseball player who became a World War II spy. A Jewish, Princeton-educated, multilingual catcher for the Boston Red Sox with a closely-guarded private life, the enigmatic Berg (Paul Rudd) was already a man of mystery when, in 1944, the US government's wartime intelligence agency enlisted his services. His mission: go behind enemy lines in Europe to assassinate the Nazi's chief nuclear scientist before the Germans develop an atomic bomb. Trading in his catcher's mitt for a trench coat, Berg must rely on his formidable, steel-trap intellect in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse—with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Jeff Daniels, Paul Giamatti, and Sienna Miller costar in this remarkable slice of forgotten history.
Great cast, good costuming, score, photography, but what a steaming pile of propaganda delivered like a 2"x4" on the head. Really Makes you miss subliminal messages...
Down with the naysayers I loved the movie nail biter intrigue it’s got it all
Overall it was a 4 star. Sometimes it seem to be too unrealistic but worth watching
I'm a history teacher and especially intrigued about WWII..so I tend to watch everything that comes out relating to this era. I saw this movie and I really really wanted to like it...but it was not to be. The costumes were great, yes. The scenary was lovely, true. But from about two minutes in through the rest of th movie, I couldn't help but cringe and shake my head at the acting. Nothing against any of these actors....it was just not their finest hour. I found msyelf embarrassed for them. And then the ending was so utterly anticlimactic.....it was just a let down. Hoping for.a better one next time!
Terrible film with sick twists to it, a horrible portrayal of Mo Berg's character, and a sad view of WW2 patriotism. Do NOT watch!
Great cast. Beautiful costumes and scenery supported by a mostly accurate depiction of a historical hero wrapped in a quasi political agenda. It is Hollywood after all.
Great true to life story! Who knew?!?
I thought it was well done and very interesting
About time Moe Berg's story was told, and what a great cast.
